Summary of the Erasmus+ Project: International Internships for IT Students on Crete

The recently concluded Erasmus+ project proved to be a highly successful endeavor for the IT students of the Technical School Complex No. 10 of Mechanical and Electrical Schools named after Nicolaus Copernicus in Kęty. The two-week internship on the Greek island of Crete allowed a group of twelve future IT technicians to gain valuable experience in an international IT environment, expand their professional and language skills, and become acquainted with Greek culture and traditions.

During the official closing ceremony of the project, the school’s principal, Ilona Kula, officially presented the participants with certificates confirming the completion of their internships under the Erasmus+ program. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of gaining professional experience abroad and developing not only technical skills but also interpersonal and cultural competencies.

During the internships, students worked in companies specializing in computer equipment repair, mobile phone servicing, and large-format printing. This was not only a challenge for them but also an opportunity to work directly with modern technologies. As the participants themselves pointed out, working in an international team taught them flexibility, teamwork, and allowed them to improve their practical English language skills.

In addition to their professional duties, the students had the opportunity to explore the culture of Crete, visiting the ancient ruins of the Knossos palace and the picturesque beaches, such as the famous Elafonisi. These cultural excursions provided them with unforgettable memories and broadened their horizons, inspiring them to further discover the world.

A great success of the project was also the workshops that the interns conducted after returning to Poland. Inspired by their experiences in Crete, they shared their knowledge with younger peers. The students had the opportunity to learn about the modern technologies their older colleagues used during their internships and gain insights into working in the IT industry on an international scale.

The Erasmus+ project was not only an excellent opportunity to acquire practical skills but also to foster personal and cultural development. Thanks to the support of European Union funds, the school in Kęty has once again enabled its students to participate in international internships, and the certificates they received will undoubtedly be an asset in the job market.

The project 2023-1-PL01-KA121-VET-000147506, under which the internships took place, was funded by the European Union. The teachers involved in securing the funding and coordinating the project were Dorota Gawron, Urszula Kudłacik, and Maria Czechowska.
