IT and electronics technicians are conquering Portugal

16 stycznia 2020 13:08

In the temperature of 36 ° C (in shade) the first week of apprenticeships for IT specialists and electronics specialists from the PZ Nr 10 SME in Kęty came to its end.

Since May 5, twenty students have been participating in a monthly apprenticeship in Lisbon, Portugal.

Future technicians test their professional skills during their internships in IT and electronic companies.  They learn how to use the knowledge gained at school practically and get to know the culture of the host country by working in a multicultural environment.

The participation in the internship is connected with a rich cultural program. Last weekend, students visited the Sanctuary of Fatima, medieval Obidos, saw the Atlantic Ocean and its coastal town of Nazare. The Sunday trip allowed the students to get to know Belem – a district of Lisbon located on the Tagus River with UNESCO-listed Hieronymites Monastery and Torre de Belem. Students’ foreign apprenticeships are possible thanks to the fact that the school has obtained funds from the EU program Erasmus +. The project „International Vocational Education and Training as an Opportunity for Building modern Europe ”provides professional internships for IT specialists, electronics engineers and teachers of vocational subjects in Seville, Lisbon and Valencia.

The costs of participation of students and teachers in the project are entirely financed from the funds of the European Union program.

Foreign vocational apprenticeships in Lisbon and training in Seville – summary of the project

16 stycznia 2020 13:04

In October 2020, PZ Nr 10 of Nicholas Copernicus Mechanical and Electrical Schools in Kęty, completed another Erasmus + project. 20 students of the third grade of technical secondary school studying in the professions of  an IT technician and an electronics technician and 10 teachers of vocational subjects went to foreign internships and trainings in Lisbon and Seville. This project was as unique as the situation around the world. The closing of borders and concern for the safety of students and teachers forced us to cancel the third mobility planned for May 2020. In 2019, we organized two trips: one for our students and one for our teachers. During the 4-week internship, students improved their professional skills by completing internships in industry companies based in the Portuguese capital. A rich cultural program including, among others, trips to the Atlantic Ocean, to Sintra or Fatima allowed students to get to know places which  the host country is famous for. During the week-long job-shadowing training in Spanish schools, teachers had the unique opportunity to learn about the work methods of their colleagues from this beautiful country. The exchange of experiences became an opportunity to discuss the cooperation between employers and schools. Organized as part of the project: „International vocational education and training as a chance to build a modern Europe”, mobility for both students and teachers became an opportunity to improve their English language skills. Working in culturally different teams made it possible to improve interpersonal skills, and the bonds will remain in the memory of the participants for a long time. The project „International vocational education and training as a chance to build a modern Europe” was implemented with the support of the European Union Erasmus + program. The authors and coordinators of the project were teachers working at the school: Dorota Gawron and Urszula Kudłacik.

On January 21, 2020 there was another meeting of parents and all the participants of the Erasmus + project „International Vocational Training as a Chance to Build Common Future”. 14 nutrition and catering technicians and 2 IT technicians, who were leaving in May for an apprenticeship to Dublin in Ireland, met to summarize the activities that have been carried out in the project so far. Students completed the recruitment process, gained access to an online English language course and soon they will start a vocational English course at school. There are also classes in cultural differences and similarities, risk management and cultural studies ahead of them. Lots of interesting facts and, of course, a lot of work. It has been known for a long time that Kęcki „Copernicus” makes sure that its educational proposals are in line with the needs of the labor market. For many years, the school has been offering its students the opportunity to go on a monthly apprenticeship. Our achievements include trips, among others to Germany (waiters, cooks), Portugal (electronic engineers, IT specialists, cooks) or Spain (IT specialists, hoteliers) and England (cooks, hoteliers). The current project „International Vocational Training as a Chance to Build Common Future”, which has just begun, is intended for nutrition technicians, hoteliers and IT specialists. During the apprenticeship, students of the 3rd grade of technical secondary school are developing their professional competences. They are also learning the methods and techniques of work, as well as how to perform job-specific activities and tasks. They are to gain new qualifications and experience, learn about the latest technological solutions and about the specifics of work in European industry companies. Apprentices must use English on a daily basis with particular emphasis on professional vocabulary. The mobility is an opportunity to get to know the rich culture and the heritage of the partner country. Intercultural competences such as openness, acceptance and tolerance are developed. The benefits of international cooperation are visible to both sides of the project. Our foreign partners are also gaining a European dimension through joint implementation of the project with a Polish school, and they are building their open to Europe image.
